JEM STONE vs. PLUMP DJS | FLUNK HITS THE FLAN

JEM STONE .uk

Finger Lickin' Management/Freshly Squeezed

Plump DJs are arguably the wickedest confection to have oozed out from that veritable sweet-trolley-of-breaks imprint, Finger Lickin’ Records, and exactly a decade ago their super sized Eddie Bo-sampling platter "Funk Hits The Fan" not only did what it said on the menu, it sprayed across the dining room so damn hard it’s going to take another ten years and some serious pressure-steaming to get that sticky funk out.

And on this special anniversary who better to serve up a fresh, new, completely unofficial-but-irresistible slice of 10th birthday cake than Finger Lickin’ co-founder (and the label’s second-naughtiest act, Soul of Man) Jem Panufnik, aka Jem Stone?!

Stirring in a handful of wickedly rich and downright indulgent ingredients, Jem turns the oven down to 115 and serves up a deliciously deep, moist and fluffy gateaux-disco chugger with which the older, wiser (and almost definitely plumper) Lick fans will find plenty to stuff their fat faces, whilst the ones too young to worry about their figure can gorge on its sweet guitar licks and creamy bass with wild, careless abandon. If it ain’t good for ya, it’s good for ya, as the song famously goes.

TREMENDO VOLUME 3

DJ MANAIA .pt

BREAKS lda.

Telephunken's Tremendo imprint continues to settle itself into the party, making itself more than at home. A cool septuplet of cuts, the swaggering block busting vibes are introduced by Telephunken themselves with a very naughty Rage Against The Machine sampling mosh-masher before we cruise into myriad styles from west coast Cali Soul (Father Funk's "Real Funky") to chop-blistering big beat (DJ Manaia presents The Bang! Bang! Show's tongue-in-cheek "Do Your Whoomp") to slow n' steady bass squelchism (Stereo Beatz "Feel The Panic"). Tremendo? Tremendous more like.

Sérgio Gomes aka SRG GMS added some really fat bassline to this old skool hip-hop track. Surface roughness, the roughness of a surface...

2ruff is a typical European Rap/HipHop act. This group is most known for the songs "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", "Guns And Roses", "Only You (That I Need)". They also worked with 2-4 Family, 4 The Cause, Down Low, Sweetbox and Leroy Daniels, when they all together did the song "Last Christmas" as Rap Allstars. JEM STONE | 1 TRACK & 1 REMIX

JEM STONE .uk

Jem Stone is the alter-ego of producer, DJ, artist and filmmaker Jem Panufnik, but you might know him as co-founder and the creative force behind the legendary label Finger Lickin’ Records. Releasing singles and DJing as Soul of Man, Prophets of Sound and Bush Doctors amongst many other guises, Jem is also responsible for the inimitable Finger Lickin’ artwork.

As his Mr Stone alias, Jem has an avenue for all his creative projects that defy genres, categories, rules and often sanity. He has released stomping house tracks in collaboration with Elite Force and Lee Coombs, twisted disco alongside JC, had releases on Finger Lickin’, Thrust and Washington DC’s premier funk label Fort Knox. As a remixer Mr Stone has sprinkled his jazzy dubby funk over tracks by Kraak & Smaak, Smoove & Turrell, Rennie Pilgrem, Drumattic Twins and Lindy Layton.

Add to this a plethora of specially commissioned TV and film music for BBC, Sky, Five, UKLiving, Channel 4 plus numerous soundtracks for live shows including contemporary dance pieces at The Place in London, The Alternative Hair Show at Royal Albert Hall, fashion shows from Sydney to Singapore and most recently the street dance-meets-circus show Cacophony which toured UK theatres last year. To sample Jem Stone's visual and musical treats, head over to the Youtube link below.

Lately Jem has found a home for his jazzier flappier side at a Brighton label whose philosophy is not far from his own. Freshly Squeezed Music is at the forefront of the nicely bubbling electro swing scene, which means it’s the perfect springboard for Jem’s ragtime-with-beats passion.

Now let me see those jazz hands, people…
