Streetwise/Brains Kan

A Dominant Species are Anya, Dom Almond and Special A.

SPECIAL A has been around almost as long as digital dance music. In the early '90s he was a pioneer of the MC scene when he was the first MC for Suburban Base Records. The main act he toured with was ‘Sonz Of A Loop Da Loop Era’ who’s massive old school anthem ‘Far Out’ took the dance floors and the u.k chart by storm reaching *35 in the nationals! He also released his own music during this affiliation, first with ‘Run Tings’ a track called ‘Tribe Vibe’ in ‘92 then a solo release to follow on the ‘Sub Plates 3 e.p.’ in ‘93 as ‘Special A’ with ‘Crack Is Evil’. After a break from all things musical, he came back as the vocalist for ‘nightbreed’ and in 2003 the DnB/Rock fusion club smash ‘ pack of wolves’ (Ram records) in which he wrote and performed the vocal.. reached *45 in the u.k charts!! Since 2003 he has released solo drum and bass material on DnB labels ‘frequency’ and ‘bingo beats, with ‘the Cradle’ and ‘Synthesis’ but has in more recent times dedicated his studio time to the ‘A Dominant Species’ projects, he has future releases planned for 2008 within both the breakbeat and DnB genres…

ANYA Inspired by Funk in the 70’s, Rock in the 80’s, Dance in the 90’s and Drum n Bass throughout, it was a natural progression for Anya to step into the male dominated world of DJing. After years out there on the dance floor herself, she knows what the crowd wants and knows how to deliver it!! Anya’s 4-year residency at Sessions has seen a progression from a funky vocal style to that of a fatter breaks sound that is both clever and eclectic. Her ability to read and play the crowd stands her alone This girly knows how to create a good time. She gives her all with every set and her energy knows no bounds. To date Anya has played alongside, The Plump DJ’s , The Stanton Warriors, Way Out West, Eric Prdyz, Tim Deluxe, Seb Fontaine, Mutiny, Circulation Savers, MYNC Project, The Freestylers, Futreshock, Steve Angelo, Nic Warren and The Audio Bullys and not forgetting her fellow Sessions ressies.

DOM ALMOND has been involved in dance music since the early Nineties when he was inspired by the scratch DJ’s and turntablists of the Hip Hop scene and the dirty groove of Electro. Dom dedicated years to developing his art and has amounted a mass of technical skills. As his reputation grew Dom further developed his mixing skills, resulting in him coming runner up in the Muzik magazine bedroom bedlam competition in 1999, only beaten to the post by the then unknown Yousef. Being Sessions longest standing Dj means he has played alongside the cream of international artists, including the Audio Bully's, Plump DJ's, Stanton Warriors, Seb Fontaine, Eric Prydz, Tim Deluxe, Mutiny, Wayout West, Evil 9, Annie Mac, Adam Freeland, Freestylers, Pendulum, Seb Fontaine, Circulation Savers, MYNC Project, Switch, Futureshock, Steve Angelo and Nic Warren. Having to warm up for, or indeed in many cases follow, a whose who of dance over the years. Dom's latest residency at Beatcheck in Milton Keynes has seen him play with names such as Soul of Man, A Skillz, FreeStylers, Drumattic Twins, Ali b, Stanton Warriors, Slyde and not forgetting breaks poll winners Groove Diggerz headlining it seems it won’t be long before his name is one that goes hand in hand with quality underground dance at its best.
